April 16, 2012 (Updated: June 10, 2014)

Introduction

One of the most important job responsibilities of a Database Administrator is to make sure that SQL Servers within the organizations are applied with the latest security patches, cumulative updates and services packs which are released by Microsoft. However, it is always challenging to keep track of all the security patches, cumulative updates released by Microsoft. In this article I have compiled an exhaustive list of all the security patches, cumulative updates and service packs for SQL Server 2012 Build List released by Microsoft.

For information on Cumulative Updates, Security Patches,  and Services Packs of previous SQL Server Versions, follow the links given below:

It is recommend that you to read the article titled "How to Install a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack" to know more about the Best Practices to follow before installing a SQL Server Service Pack or a Cummulative Update for SQL Server.

How to Identify SQL Server Version

Database Administrators can determine the version of SQL Server they are running by executing the below query. If the below query returns edition as (64-bit) then is a 64 bit instance of SQL Server 2012.

SELECT
 	SERVERPROPERTY('ProductVersion') AS ProductVersion,
	SERVERPROPERTY('ProductLevel') AS ProductLevel,
	SERVERPROPERTY('Edition') AS Edition
GO

ProductVersion ProductLevel Edition
11.0.2100.60 RTM Enterprise Edition (64-bit)

The Product Version 11.0.2100.60 represents SQL Server 2012 RTM.
