SQL Server 2008 Build Versions

Introduction

One of the most important job responsibilities of a Database Administrator is to make sure that SQL Servers within the organizations are applied with the latest security patches, cumulative updates and services packs which are released by Microsoft. However, it is always challenging to keep track of all the security patches, cumulative updates released by Microsoft. In this article I have compiled an exhaustive list of all the security patches, cumulative updates and service packs for SQL Server 2008 Build Versions released by Microsoft.

Indentifying SQL Server Version

Database Administrators can determine the version of SQL Server they are running by executing the below query.

SELECT
 	SERVERPROPERTY('ProductVersion') AS ProductVersion,
	SERVERPROPERTY('ProductLevel') AS ProductLevel,
	SERVERPROPERTY('Edition') AS Edition
GO

ProductVersion ProductLevel Edition
10.0.1600.22 RTM Developer Edition

The Product Version 10.0.1600.22 represents SQL Server 2008 RTM.

You can also execute the xp_msver inbuilt system stored procedure to know more details related to SQL Server which you are currently running within the organization.
